Day 1: Fes to Merzouga via Ifrane, Midelt, and the Atlas Mountains (480 km)

Breakfast in your hotel then begin your scenic drive through Morocco's striking landscapes, starting with the Middle Atlas and Higher Atlas mountain ranges. Stop at the cedar forest where you may spot the native Barbary apes. After exploring the forest, continue your journey toward Midelt, traversing the stunning hills and peaks of the Atlas. From Midelt, head towards the dramatic Tiz Ntalghamt Pass and Ziz Gorge, with sweeping views of the High Atlas plateau. As you approach Errachidia, notice how the landscape begins to shift, hinting at the desert. Lunch break here. Afterward, travel through the lush Ziz Valley, stopping for panoramic views, before continuing to Erfoud and then onward to the famous Erg Chebbi dunes. Spend the night in a hotel near the dunes with dinner and breakfast.

Day 2: Exploring Merzouga and Camel Trekking

After the breakfast at your hotel, spend the morning exploring the Merzouga area. Visit the local Gnawa community, descendants of former slaves brought from Sudan, and immerse yourself in their unique music and culture. You’ll also have the chance to see the nearby Merzouga Lake, home to diverse birdlife. If you're interested, visit a nomadic Berber house made of wire, where handcrafted goods are sold at lower prices than in the cities. In the afternoon, board a camel and embark on a guided trek through the golden sands of the Erg Chebbi dunes. As the sun sets, enjoy dinner at your desert camp, where you’ll spend the night under the stars.

Day 3: Merzouga to Fes (480 km)

Wake up early to catch the spectacular desert sunrise and capture a few photographs before enjoying breakfast at the camp. Then, embark on a tranquil camel trek back to the village of Merzouga, taking in the ever-changing landscape of the Erg Chebbi dunes as the light shifts throughout the morning. Meet your driver and begin the return journey to Fes, retracing your route with a few different stops along the way for more breathtaking views and cultural experiences.
